David Gray was born in Manchester, England but was raised in the Welsh fishing village of Solva. He was greatly influenced by Bob Dylan's lyrics and began writing songs when he was 17. His first album, "A Century Ends", was released in 1993 and the song "Shine" made the charts in Ireland. This led David to be involved in a number of singer-songwriter tours in the U.S.
Several songs from his fourth album "White Ladder" were featured in he movie "This Year's Love" and the album became a bestseller in Ireland. The album finally topped the UK charts in August 2001, almost three years after its initial release.
