Chris Rea
Chris Rea Chris Rea was born in Middlesbrough England to an Italian father and an Irish mother. He bought his first guitar at 19 after a friend played him a Joe Walsh record and even though he is left handed, he learned to play guitar right handed. In 1973, he joined a band called "Magdalene", which then became "Beautiful Losers" which won a Melody Maker competition as "Best Newcomer of the Year". In 1977 he left the band to go solo. In April 1978 he released "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" which made the charts in the UK and the USA and was nominated for a Grammy but failed to win. Since then, Chris Rea has toured nearly every year, acted in two movies, "La Passione" and "Parting Shots" and sold over 22 million albums worldwide.

Please tour the US!!!!!!!! "Road to Hell" & "Auberge" are the best! "Looking for the summer", "At the mention of your name", "Summer Love",are my favorite songs. I was living by Malibu beach in the late eighties and early nineties when I was listening to this radio station The Wave. They used to play Chris all of the time. I just loved his music. I was with the love of my life for 5 years. We both used to listen to Chris, especially laying on the beach. It was very romantic. His music is sentimental to me, Thanks Chris!!

I love his music but especially his voice. My favorite (which is hard to say because I love them all) probably is The Road to Hell. When you listen to the lyrics you feel as if he has hit society right on the head. I also like "I just Want to be with you" because when you fall in love with someone, that's exactly the way you feel. I'm a huge fan and I've never written a fan letter in my life. Hi Seth,
You are not alone! I come here pretty much daily. Always with the same hopes some new info on Chris or a new interesting post from a fan. I still find it humurous that the rumor persists that Chris is dead. How that got started I am not sure...So to answer your question Pierre Chris is not dead. Only to the record executives who shunned him for wanting to his labor of love. Seth, I do have some of the songs you are referring to. I will have to dig out my cd's and tell you which ones they are on. Most I think are on cd singles. I will get back to you. If I can zip them should I send the audio files to you? Best Wishes to everyone, Jennifer

THE BLUE JUKEBOX

BABY DON,T CRY

THE COLD AXE OF BAD LOVE
SURE CUT YOU DOWN
THERE,S NOTHING TO HOLD ONTO NOW
IN THIS PART OF TOWN

YOUR HEART HAS BEEN BROKEN
BUT HEAR WHAT I SAY
AIN,T NOTHING BUT A COLD NIGHT
BRINGING HOME A NEW Day

I KNOW WHAT YOU,RE FEELING
WHAT YOU,RE GOING THROUGH
HOW MUCH IT MUST HURT YOU
LIKE NOTHING ELSE DO

DON,T CRY,BABY DON,T CRY,THE WORST IS OVER
DON,T CRY,BABY DON,T CRY,THE WORST IS GONE

HEY LITTLE ANGEL, OH HEAR WHAT I SAY
THE PAIN THAT YOU,RE FEELING
I SWEAR IT WON,T STAY
COS I GOT THE WISDOM
OF A THOUSAND BROKEN BONES
AND I,LL BE HERE WITH YOU
SO YOU NEVER BE ALONE

DON,T CRY, BABY DON,T CRY,THE WORST IS OVER
DON,T CRY, BABY DON,T CRY,THE WORST IS GONE

anyone out there who's a real chris rea fanatic (like me), should also check out a fellow canadian by the name of leonard cohen. just like chris rea,a lot of his stuff has been infuriatingly ignored. Try "the best of Leonard cohen", "the future", and "I'm your man" for starters. let me know what you think.there have been 1038 cover versions of his songs and i've heard of a rumor from a reliable source that a chris rea/leonard cohen tour is in the works for summer of 2006!!! talk about an embarassment of riches!
take care of yourself everyone and keep on being "wired to the moon."

Don't know if anyone else cares but I was curious if Chris learned the Harmonica for Stoney Road or if he played it prior to that. In looking back at all his albums here is the list instruments he plays (and yes he played harmonica way before Stoney Road).

Guitar,Bass,Banjo, Mandolin,Dobro,Marimba,Harmonica,Synthesiser, Drum Machine,Keyboards, Piano, Electric Piano, Organ, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Accordion, anything with strings and anything with keys.

Seems he is much more than a fantastic slide guitarist!!! Can't wait for the nxt relase in his musical history. I'm sure it will be awesome!

Dancing With Strangers is a great album, and my favourite lyrics from it are, September Blue, and Gonna Buy a Hat. Two very different, but excellent songs. Chris,s newest album The Blue Jukebox is also well worth listening to if you like his more recent style. My favourite albums are Auberge and King of the Beach, but hey! all his music is brilliant!!!

I would like to know if Chris Rea ever plans to make it to the DC area or even up in New England (Boston area) in the future?
One of my very favorite songs of his is, "Josephine". When I heard this tune back in the 80's my heart just about crumbled!
I hope Mr. Rea is recovering well.
Thank you.

Chirs Rea, to me, is the best single singer/song writer ever. (Sorry, John & Paul, please forgive me.) I am a song writer, and he inspires me as no other. A dream is to travel to the U.K. and see him in concert. THEN I could die.

I first heard Chris Rea back in the late 70s when the single Fool If you think Its Over came out. After that I did not buy any of his albums until The Road to Hell came out and I became a big fan. I bought every CD after the Road to Hell and got all the albums I missed on EBay. I cant believe I missed out on all this good music. His latest albums are a little jazzy but are ok. I hope he goes back to Rock music. I think Auberge was his best album,I love the song set me free. Great guitar solo.

Does anyone recall Chris doing a version of Tom Waits' 'Downtown Train'. If I'm right on this one, I believe it came out just before Rod Stewart's version in the late 1980s (??). Also, if I'm correct, how do I get a copy........?

I grew up in College Station, Texas, USA. At my time (83 to 99), there was only the "Road to Hell" CD avaliable in stores. I live in Beijing, China now. It is a pity the music industry here only pirates pop singers. And no one knows Chris Rea. I started to take my CD to bars and parties, ending up giving them away and had to buy fresh copies when vacationing back in Texas. Now, I just burn a CD and hand it out, cheating Chris out of his royalties. But at this age of internet, people just can't wait for good music. Naturally, Road to Hell rocks, and Texas is one of my favorites.

I was so pleased to read the comments from Emmie, Royce and Frances. I too feel this way about the depth, talent and creativity to be found in his songs and music. Since I lost my deeply loved husband, I have found much to reflect on when listening to the words of his songs, and his hauntingly beautiful music. This has brought me some comfort and peace. Also, I too find "La Passione" very different, original, and very attractive. Keep telling everybody! Dont forget to try Bart,s web site with his new forum where you can find a tremendous amount of up to date info about Chris and his music, with the opportunity to download his songs and chat with lots of other people drawn to his work. Lets hope he is beginning to recover from his dreadful illness now. Leila.

"Looking For A Rainbow" is one of the most tpouching songs i have ever heard in my entire life. I listen to it at least 5 times a day. I cannot describe the way that song makes me feel, it just grasps me by the heart and takes over. The solo is absolutely extrordinary, it has to be, by far one of the best songs that the music world has ever exerienced. Thank you so much Chris for your extreme dedication, talent and emotional influences. You have changed my life.

I first came across Chris Rea when I saw his film "La Passione", and heard him talking about it on the radio - his mix of reflectiveness and common sense made a huge impression on me, but not so huge as the impression that his music did when I started to hunt it down. I was about to undergo the greatest trial of my life, and honest to God, this music saw me through it. I love both the albums Dancing With Strangers and Auberge - rare albums in that every track is strong, and in the right place in relation to the others - impeccable. But if forced to choose just one song, it would be The Curse of the Traveller. I just hope I never have to choose.....

My husband introduced me to Chris Rea when we married in 2000. We got together late in life, he was 48 and I was 47. We used to dance (in our living room) to the songs on "New Light through Old Windows," and John would call me his Stainsby Girl. He died last week, tragically young at age 53, and it gives me great comfort to think of the love that was enhanced so romantically by Chris's music. Chris gave me great memories to cherish of a wonderful man!

Bought a copy of Chris Rea Gold CD off E Bay.Think it must be a rip off by somebody because there are no details apart from the song tracks and the albums they are from. Songs are from CDs from 1989 to 1993.
Be wary it doesn't seem to be an official CD.

Maybe you could send details of this record store to my brother Sean O'Finn, who has the worst musical taste in the universe. He could do with a copy of "A flight over Cumbria" just to let him hear Chris at his best. But I'll tell him to make sure he takes REAL euros.

Chris is a real cool dude. His music has the ability to help you escape to warm beaches, cool drinks, and windy rides down the coast in a sports car with your hair blowing in the wind. That is the essence of the man. I sometimes think he is too much into this blues thing. He doesnt need the Mississipi blues sound so much.

Im in a household of Chris fans from ages 20 to 51, and my alltime favorites are "ace of hearts" and how the music unfolds into something beautiful, and "candles" mainly due to heartache :(

I have seen Chris in concert on a number of occations, just seen him at Newcastle city hall on Thursday 6th May and his performance was the best I've seen. How anyone can make an electric guitar create the sounds that Chris does is beyond me. Did about an 1hr, who was keeping track of the time!, of his latest blues songs, all excellent, then about another 1hr of his classics like road to hell, let's dance, although as were British we wanted to but we didn't!, and Julia now updated as his daughter is a bit older and has left home. Long may he continue to rock on, especally his current Blues style, but PLEASE come home to the BORO to play.
