Chris Rea was born in Middlesbrough England to an Italian father and an Irish mother. He bought his first guitar at 19 after a friend played him a Joe Walsh record and even though he is left handed, he learned to play guitar right handed. In 1973, he joined a band called "Magdalene", which then became "Beautiful Losers" which won a Melody Maker competition as "Best Newcomer of the Year". In 1977 he left the band to go solo. In April 1978 he released "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" which made the charts in the UK and the USA and was nominated for a Grammy but failed to win. Since then, Chris Rea has toured nearly every year, acted in two movies, "La Passione" and "Parting Shots" and sold over 22 million albums worldwide.

Dhaka, Dhaka Bangladesh - Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 00:22:03 (EDT)Please tour the US!!!!!!!! "Road to Hell" & "Auberge" are the best! "Looking for the summer", "At the mention of your name", "Summer Love",are my favorite songs. I was living by Malibu beach in the late eighties and early nineties when I was listening to this radio station The Wave. They used to play Chris all of the time. I just loved his music. I was with the love of my life for 5 years. We both used to listen to Chris, especially laying on the beach. It was very romantic. His music is sentimental to me, Thanks Chris!!

sydney, n.s.w. australia - Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 06:58:16 (EDT)I love his music but especially his voice. My favorite (which is hard to say because I love them all) probably is The Road to Hell. When you listen to the lyrics you feel as if he has hit society right on the head. I also like "I just Want to be with you" because when you fall in love with someone, that's exactly the way you feel. I'm a huge fan and I've never written a fan letter in my life. You are not alone! I come here pretty much daily. Always with the same hopes some new info on Chris or a new interesting post from a fan. I still find it humurous that the rumor persists that Chris is dead. How that got started I am not sure...So to answer your question Pierre Chris is not dead. Only to the record executives who shunned him for wanting to his labor of love. Seth, I do have some of the songs you are referring to. I will have to dig out my cd's and tell you which ones they are on. Most I think are on cd singles. I will get back to you. If I can zip them should I send the audio files to you? Best Wishes to everyone, Jennifer

In looking back at all his albums here is the list instruments he plays (and yes he played harmonica way before Stoney Road).
Guitar,Bass,Banjo, Mandolin,Dobro,Marimba,Harmonica,Synthesiser, Drum Machine,Keyboards, Piano, Electric Piano, Organ, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Accordion, anything with strings and anything with keys.
Seems he is much more than a fantastic slide guitarist!!! Can't wait for the nxt relase in his musical history. I'm sure it will be awesome!

Gilroy, CA USA - Friday, April 29, 2005 at 21:24:34 (EDT)Dancing With Strangers is a great album, and my favourite lyrics from it are, September Blue, and Gonna Buy a Hat. My favourite albums are Auberge and King of the Beach, but hey! all his music is brilliant!!!

ENNISKILLEN, IRELAND - Saturday, March 05, 2005 at 14:52:42 (EST)I grew up in College Station, Texas, USA. At my time (83 to 99), there was only the "Road to Hell" CD avaliable in stores. I live in Beijing, China now. It is a pity the music industry here only pirates pop singers. And no one knows Chris Rea. I started to take my CD to bars and parties, ending up giving them away and had to buy fresh copies when vacationing back in Texas. Now, I just burn a CD and hand it out, cheating Chris out of his royalties. But at this age of internet, people just can't wait for good music. Naturally, Road to Hell rocks, and Texas is one of my favorites.

Vancouver, WA USA - Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 18:49:51 (EST)"Looking For A Rainbow" is one of the most tpouching songs i have ever heard in my entire life. I listen to it at least 5 times a day. I cannot describe the way that song makes me feel, it just grasps me by the heart and takes over. Thank you so much Chris for your extreme dedication, talent and emotional influences. You have changed my life.

- Friday, February 18, 2005 at 12:15:10 (EST)I first came across Chris Rea when I saw his film "La Passione", and heard him talking about it on the radio - his mix of reflectiveness and common sense made a huge impression on me, but not so huge as the impression that his music did when I started to hunt it down. I was about to undergo the greatest trial of my life, and honest to God, this music saw me through it. I love both the albums Dancing With Strangers and Auberge - rare albums in that every track is strong, and in the right place in relation to the others - impeccable. But if forced to choose just one song, it would be The Curse of the Traveller. I just hope I never have to choose.....

London, England - Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 19:16:24 (EST)My husband introduced me to Chris Rea when we married in 2000. We got together late in life, he was 48 and I was 47. We used to dance (in our living room) to the songs on "New Light through Old Windows," and John would call me his Stainsby Girl. He died last week, tragically young at age 53, and it gives me great comfort to think of the love that was enhanced so romantically by Chris's music. Chris gave me great memories to cherish of a wonderful man!

Glesga ya pure bonnet ye man, You rippin the pish You Fuckin urr big man - Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 14:43:32 (EST)BBB, hi.
Maybe you could send details of this record store to my brother Sean O'Finn, who has the worst musical taste in the universe. He could do with a copy of "A flight over Cumbria" just to let him hear Chris at his best. But I'll tell him to make sure he takes REAL euros.

Glesga, - Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 10:29:52 (EST)Hi Fatboab, i know of a very good record store in Stuttgart, however you can only pay by credit card, as they had the misfortune of some fake Euro's a while back.

Dumfries, Scotland - Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 10:23:54 (EST)I heard a bootleg from around summer 2002, and he sang a song with the lyrics going something like..." You were at home, watching the Bill

Glesga, - Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 10:17:43 (EST)Chris, I love your music. It brings out the best in me. I wish you and I could stand side by side and sing my favourite Chris Rea song - "You and me baby ain't nothin but mammals so let's do it like they do on the Discovery channel" You dressed up like a monkey too for that video. You're my hero.

- Thursday, October 14, 2004 at 14:28:16 (EDT)Chris is a real cool dude. His music has the ability to help you escape to warm beaches, cool drinks, and windy rides down the coast in a sports car with your hair blowing in the wind. That is the essence of the man. I sometimes think he is too much into this blues thing. He doesnt need the Mississipi blues sound so much.

tehran, - Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 16:08:58 (EDT)Im in a household of Chris fans from ages 20 to 51, and my alltime favorites are "ace of hearts" and how the music unfolds into something beautiful, and "candles" mainly due to heartache :(
Weve all shared that one I think! My husband and I have been married 22 years and are hoping he will be performing someplace in Europe so we can spend our 25th seeing him. Neither of us can think of anyone better to spend it listening to :)

Glasgow, - Saturday, May 08, 2004 at 16:22:09 (EDT)I have seen Chris in concert on a number of occations, just seen him at Newcastle city hall on Thursday 6th May and his performance was the best I've seen. How anyone can make an electric guitar create the sounds that Chris does is beyond me. Did about an 1hr, who was keeping track of the time!, of his latest blues songs, all excellent, then about another 1hr of his classics like road to hell, let's dance, although as were British we wanted to but we didn't!, and Julia now updated as his daughter is a bit older and has left home. Long may he continue to rock on, especally his current Blues style, but PLEASE come home to the BORO to play.
